I love Adele. I have done since I first heard ‘Chasing Pavements’ and ‘Hometown’ was one of my favourite songs to listen to walking around Lancaster for a while.
In particular I am a massive fan of the ’21’ album, but struggled to listen to it for some time after losing someone very dear to me. ‘Someone Like You’ and ‘Rumour Has It’ struck a little close to home for a while. However, I have recently returned to Adele’s music and discovered a new favourite.
‘My Same’ is one of those rare things – a song about friendship rather than love, something that we need more of in our worlds. My Same in particular makes me think of a dear friend called Mon, who I almost lost for a while – we went through a rough patch where we didn’t speak for a couple of years. However, some perspective and a bit more maturity seems to have taken care of that and we are now back to where we should always have been.
We will always be very different people in some ways. We lived totally different lives up until fairly recently and sometimes when we talk about our youth, it amazes me that we ended up in the same place with so much common ground. She calls me Perspective Girl, and I could say the same about her – she cuts straight through the bullshit to the heart of the matter and never minces her words. We were reunited in time for my wedding. Just as we should have been. And now I don’t know who I’d be if I didn’t know you 🙂
“You’re so provocative
I’m so conservative
You’re so adventurous
I’m so very cautious
Combining? You think we wouldn’t
We do, we do do do
Walkin’ with each other,
Think we’d never match at all
But we do”
